SOC Sunday: Boba Fett Storms Fernbank

SOC Sunday: Boba Fett Storms Fernbank

You know the drill. It’s 5 minutes of unedited, raw writing. And the time starts… NOW!

************************************

Yesterday was Fernbank Museum’s Halloween Party. If you don’t know by now, we LOVE Fernbank with a passion. Henry is kinda a rock star there and our friend @Giga_A_Dino is always waiting with his handler Deanna. I’ve said it before, our Fernbank membership is the best thing we’ve ever bought. I highly recommend it to anyone in the Atlanta area.

Here are a few pictures of the fun we had!

Henry, Giggy and Giggy’s Handler, Deanna!

Everybody’s favorite — the Fruit Bat!

Boba Fett totally would’ve hung out with Charles Darwin, right?

Ran into an old friend, Darth.

Got caught up in a web. But I’m awesome so I can get out!

The BobaFettAsaurus Rex, A Fernbank Original.

I’ll take you ALL down.

Thanks to Fernbank for having amazing programming, even more amazing events and some of the best staff and volunteers in Atlanta!

This was my 5 minute Stream of Consciousness Sunday post. It’s five minutes of your time and a brain dump. Want to try it? Here are the rules…

  • Set a timer and write for 5 minutes only.
  • Write an intro to the post if you want but don’t edit the post. No proofreading or spellchecking. This is writing in the raw.
  • Publish it somewhere. Anywhere. The back door to your blog if you want. But make it accessible.
  • Add the Stream of Consciousness Sunday badge to your post (on Fadra’s sidebar)
  • Link up your post on her SOC Sunday post.
  • Visit your fellow bloggers and show some love.
You Know What I Wish?

You Know What I Wish?

I wish ice cream had no calories.

I wish bikers would use the lanes that were made for them to use and that motorcyclists would follow the rules of the road while I’m “looking twice” to make sure I don’t hit one.

I wish little boys didn’t pee all over the toilet.

I wish my birthday wasn’t in December.

I wish people would follow rules and respect authority.

I wish the news channels would just go ahead and be either conservative or liberal. I don’t know why they have to pretend to be fair or balanced.

I wish somebody would come over and cook enough food for me for about a month so I don’t have to.

I wish common sense was used more often.

I wish people realized that pro-choice and pro-life aren’t comparing apples to apples. Pro-choice doesn’t equal pro-death. It means you’re PRO people making choices on their own, whatever that choice may be.

I wish people would use their blinkers.

I wish things didn’t have to be so serious all the time.

I wish trusting people was easy. More than that, I wish there weren’t so many reasons to NOT trust people.

I wish for one more minute with my Charlie.

I wish Henry would stop growing up so fast; but knowing that he has to, I wish for him all he wants in this world.

I wish for happiness. For now and for always.

My Tipping Point

My Tipping Point

My body has decided that at the ripe old age of 35.9 (so close to 36) it’s going to desert me. It’s going to just up and quit and start acting like it hates me. Right now I weigh more than I ever have. It’s not fun. And it’s not pretty. And I’m not happy in my own skin.

I know it’s not completely to blame for the extra 25lbs I’ve got on me or the fact that my only real exercise is walking Henry to school, but it IS to blame for the insane swelling and joint pain. And for the random rashes on my lower legs. Oh, and the fact that my hormones are way out of whack. Yeah, Body, I’m talking to you.

Body, I’m putting you in your place.

Monday I see my doctor to try to figure out why I’m swelling like a puffer fish. Something is going on in my body and I’m determined to get to the bottom of it. My feet and hands and elbows and knees shouldn’t be as swollen as they are. And no, they’re not just fat. I can feel the difference.

I’m tackling the fat, too. All those extra rolls around the middle — UGH.

Starting today, my sweet friend Bonnie at Simple Nutrition and Health is putting me back on track to take my Body back. I’ll be very open and honest, though. My real plan won’t start hard core until Monday. (Tomorrow is Henry’s birthday party and all weekend we have Halloween stuff, so I’m out for one last – in moderation – hoorah!)

Anyway, Bonnie’s whipped me up a meal plan based on my body, what it’s doing, what it’s NOT doing, how I feel and what my end goals are. I have a simple, but powerful, workout plan that I can do at home without spending a fortune on a gym.

Her approach is great. From her website:

We want to make eating right as simple as can be, so you can enjoy your life without it revolving around your diet.

Simple Nutrition and Health’s entire purpose is to give you the knowledge and tools to be the healthiest, happiest you can be. Whether it’s taking control of your health or providing the best nutrition possible for your family, we want to help you!

I saw the words “simple” and “happiest” and that’s what sold me.

She can do this all via Skype, email and chat and is a dream to work with. I’ll be updating y’all on my progress. Monday will be my kickoff day, complete with a picture and all that!

Stay tuned!

ps: Go follow Bonnie at Simple Nutrition and Health on Facebook! She gives out great recipes. Also, contact her if you’re interested in her services. Her rates are great and the support is even better!

Disclaimer: All opinions here are mine, however, Bonnie is providing me with her services in exchange for my posting my results and generally pimping her business out!

Retro Boys and a Little Free Bird

Retro Boys and a Little Free Bird

The Malibu's -- 1966

Yes, there is an apostrophe in Malibu’s. There’s a reason but I don’t know it. My grandmother was an English teacher so I’m surprised she let it fly.

My daddy is second from the left. He was 17 then. He bought that Fender Stratocaster and still to this day has the original box AND receipt AND still plays it like it was brand new.

His nickname is Rock. Everybody calls him that. Why? Well, because he plays rock and roll AND because he’s a jeweler and sells “rocks.”

Three of those guys still play music on a regular basis.

One lost his life in an air show in 2003.

This was shortly before they were offered a national recording contract. And before they turned it down to get married and have babies. Can you imagine if they had signed? Yeah, they can’t either.

My sister made my daddy learn Free Bird for her wedding. Not because she liked the song, but because he said he always wanted to learn it. He studied, took lessons, had somebody help him and BOOM. Busted out with Free Bird at her reception. At the end of the night, they played it one more time. It was amazing!

But that was then. This is now.

Too Much To Do!

Oh, my to do list is as long as the wait for a new Apple product. Jeez…

So today, I’m just going to share a few things with you.

I’m honored today to be on a great site called Found The Marbles. While most of y’all might think I’ve LOST my marbles, I’ve actually found them!

Owning Your Story and Finding Your Calling

Over the weekend, we celebrated and remembered our babies that have been lost to miscarriage, stillbirth and infant death. I shared some thoughts on Band Back Together about the differences between THEN and NOW.

Thoughts From A Mom: Eight Years Later

This morning, my friend Law-Momma posted on her site a post that really hit home. It’s about perspective and blessings. And it’s a must-read.

First World Problems

Feeling a little confused by Occupy*InsertUSCityHere* like I am? Well, my buddy Avitable has a great post about it. I think we ALL can appreciate what he has to say.
