Honored.

Honored.

Humbled.

Excited.

Flattered.

Surprised.

Proud.

Inspired.

Blessed.

Those are only a few of the emotions I’m feeling right now.

Thursday night, my friend texted me because she was chosen for BlogHer’s Voice of the Year. I scrambled in the car to see if I had a rejection email. I did. I texted her back that “Oh well, I didn’t figure I’d get it anyway.” (I’d actually forgotten about it)

Then I scrolled down to some other unread emails. Another one from BlogHer.

I’m writing to let you know that we’ve selected
at the 5th annual Voices of the Year Community Keynote!
Out of nearly 1,700 submissions, the committee
has chosen one of your posts to be among the
20 Honorees in the Identity category. While you
are not among the 15 readers at the
Community Keynote at BlogHer ’12,
your work is one of only 110 pieces that will
be honored as a 2012 Voice of the Year at BlogHer ’12.

I texted her back while mumbling incoherently while Jason asked over and over what was wrong.

I was left speechless.

I am left humbled.

I am left realizing how, without my roots, I wouldn’t be half the person I am today.

Jana, I’m not surprised your post was recognized. It is really something special in so many ways. It moved me deeply when I read it and that’s the reason I wanted to join your group for SOC Sunday’s. I want to surround myself with people who love to write and do it well, so I can learn. I send you my sincere congratulations for a job well done. I hope you are having a blast in NYC! My fav place to be!
