Those are only a few of the emotions I’m feeling right now.
Thursday night, my friend texted me because she was chosen for BlogHer’s Voice of the Year. I scrambled in the car to see if I had a rejection email. I did. I texted her back that “Oh well, I didn’t figure I’d get it anyway.” (I’d actually forgotten about it)
Then I scrolled down to some other unread emails. Another one from BlogHer.
I’m writing to let you know that we’ve selectedFrom A Pecan To A Majestic Magnolia to be honoredat the 5th annual Voices of the Year Community Keynote!Out of nearly 1,700 submissions, the committeehas chosen one of your posts to be among the20 Honorees in the Identity category. While youare not among the 15 readers at theCommunity Keynote at BlogHer ’12,your work is one of only 110 pieces that willbe honored as a 2012 Voice of the Year at BlogHer ’12.
I texted her back while mumbling incoherently while Jason asked over and over what was wrong.
I was left speechless.
I am left humbled.
I am left realizing how, without my roots, I wouldn’t be half the person I am today.
