Stream of Consciousness Sunday: The Takeover

Stream of Consciousness Sunday: The Takeover

If you’ve been reading along here in my little corner of the internet, you’ll know that I’ve been participating in the Stream of Consciousness Sunday meme with Fadra at all.things.fadra. since *gasp* November of 2010. I hopped right on her bandwagon on day one and tagged along, watching her gain more and more Stream of Consciousnessers (new word) each week.

See? Here’s proof I was there on day one. And was the first linky.

Every week, I looked forward to it. Even the weeks I didn’t actively participate, I read and clicked through to others who had joined in.

Last week, Fadra hung up her Stream of Consciousness Sunday hat. *cue collective sigh*

I immediately felt compelled to reach out to her, especially having just seen her the weekend before, to see if she would be interested in my taking it over for her.

So here I am today, saying WELCOME! to all of you who have enjoyed Stream of Consciousness Sunday and saying JOIN US! to those who think it might be fun to join in on the awesomeness!

Stream of Consciousness Sunday now lives here — at Jana’s Thinking Place!

stream of consciousness sunday

For those of you who haven’t been introduced to this yet, Stream of Consciousness writing is just that… stream of consciousness writing.

It’s free writing. Unedited. Raw. Possibly full of typos (unless you’re me and absolutely canNOT hit publish without checking the post).

For five minutes — yes, FIVE MINUTES — you write. Each week I will provide a prompt, but you don’t have to use it. It will simply be there as a starting point.

Here’s the prompt for today: Write about a time that you were challenged.

**********************

I’ve been challenged.

I’ve been challenged to run a half marathon in February.

Yes, I started Couch to 5k a few weeks ago and I’m doing pretty well with it. I’m motivated and feel better already. But dang. A half marathon is a long run.

We drove to Midtown today for breakfast and drove the Peachtree Road Race route, which is a 10k. I guess that’s like 6 miles or something. A half marathon is TWICE THAT.

I was imagining running the route and then having to turn around and run back to complete a half.

I’m obviously insane.

OBVIOUSLY.

But I’ve taken the challenge. And I have time. A lot of time, actually. Surely 6 months is long enough to prepare for it.

So look out Disney! In February I’ll be there with a tutu and a tiara on for your Princess Half Marathon thanks to my Crazy Friend putting this challenge in front of me.

**********************

This was my 5 minute Stream of Consciousness Sunday post. It’s five minutes of your time and a brain dump. Want to try it? Here are the rules…

  • Set a timer and write for 5 minutes.
  • Write an intro to the post if you want but don’t edit the post. No proofreading or spellchecking. This is writing in the raw.
  • Publish it somewhere. Anywhere. The back door to your blog if you want. But make it accessible.
  • Add the Stream of Consciousness Sunday badge to your post.
  • Link up your post below.
  • Visit your fellow bloggers and show some love.

  1. YAY for SOC living here!! So excited! :)

Also? I’ve been *thinking* about doing that 1/2 marathon as well… but my therapist just recently kinda sorta talked me out of it. For this year. But 2014? I’m so there.

Now I have to get inspired to write my SOC post…

  3. Hi Jana, I’m new here, and I’m really glad I found you through Fadra at all.things.fadra. I have a blog, but I have been very neglectful of it lately. I need Stream of Consciousness Sunday in my life to bring me back to writing consistently. I hope you and other bloggers will join me over at Word (((HUGS))) to read my response to your writing prompt for this week. I’m on Facebook, Twitter, and Tumblr, too! Have a great Sunday all!

  6. Woohoo! So pleased to see that SOC Sunday continues here. Although I was not (am not ) a regular participant, I was still dismayed to hear of Fadra’s plans to hang it up. Thanks for taking up the mantle, Jana.

    Take care,
