Climbing, Finishing and Shopping. Oh, and #FineChinaFriday!

Climbing, Finishing and Shopping. Oh, and #FineChinaFriday!

My brain hurts so you get what you get today!

Last Sunday, we went rock climbing with Henry’s Scout den for the end-of-year party.

He did not love it. He’ll tell you he did, but he didn’t.

School ended yesterday. I no longer have a first grader.

This is what the first and last days of first grade look like.

If you haven’t visited in a while, you should check out the online store for the nursery I work for. There’s lots of awesome stuff like this:

And like us on Facebook (Grayson), Facebook (Woodstock) and Twitter and Pinterest and all that jazz! Oh, and the blog. Don’t forget that!

Been to Band Back Together lately? So much awesomeness going on over there. Check it out. You won’t be sorry!

Also, it’s #FineChinaFriday. Party hard. If you’re still unsure what it is, click that little button at the top of the page that says #FineChinaFriday!

Friday I’m In Love (with these things)

Friday I’m In Love (with these things)

If you’re too young to remember The Cure’s Friday I’m In Love, then you’re too young to be reading this site. 😉 Sorry!

There are some things this week that I’ve really loved and I’m going to share them right here and now.

** My friend wrote about Taking Back Christianity. I’m not sure I’ve read anything I’ve agreed with so much in my entire life. Or at least this month. She hit the nail right on the head.

** The Bloggess is coming to Atlanta next week. I KNOW! I’m definitely going and it sounds like I’ll have a few other girls going with me.

** Angie, my Phickles Pickles friend, has taken #FineChinaFriday and the #TeacupRevolution to a new level. Her new addition, Hottie, was born with a china teacup in its paw.

** Speaking of #FineChinaFriday… play along! Pull out that dusty china, silver or crystal and enjoy whatever you’re having for dinner on it. (Guys, you can put Mom’s breakfast on it on Sunday morning, too — hint hint!)

** My baby is about to finish his first grade year. WHEN DID HE GROW UP? He had a crossover ceremony for Scouts on Tuesday and it was all kinds of adorable.

** It was a week ago now, but if you missed the May The Fourth Be With You party, well, you missed out completely. I promise there’s another post coming about the food and all that. But for now, you just get pictures of the fun! (ps: I assume they give out Mother of the Year awards on Mother’s Day?)

** I get to see my best friend this weekend. We’re going to the lake/pond and she’s going to be doing our photo shoot for the Band Back Together 2013 calendar. Yep. Jason AND I are going to be in a calendar. How awesome is that? I mean, it’s because we have a kid that died so I’d rather NOT have to be in a calendar, but yeah. Never been in one so this is kinda fun!

That’s all I know right now.

Wishing you all a beautiful weekend and peaceful Mother’s Day.

ps: Men, don’t forget to help the littles get a gift for mom.

pps: If you know someone who has lost a baby and has empty arms, make sure you acknowledge that she, in fact, is a mother. There’s nothing in the world more painful than a Mother’s Day with no baby in your arms.

May The Fourth Be With You (alternate title: When do they give out mother of the year awards?)

May The Fourth Be With You (alternate title: When do they give out mother of the year awards?)

I know. It’s #FineChinaFriday. I’m not celebrating. Why, you ask?

We’ve been celebrating nerd-style today for Star Wars Day! You know, May the Fourth Be With You.

I plan on giving a how-to on the food, dress and other details but right now, I’m going to just let you enjoy a few pictures.

Death Star Melon (put me over the edge for that Mother Of The Year Award, I think)

Tie Fighters, Han Solo in Carbonite, Yoda Soda and Yoda plates

Endor Trail Mix, Wookie Cookies, Thermal Detonators, Leia’s Buns, Tie Fighters.

The Gang in their Luke and Leia outfits with their homemade light sabers.

They wanted to *cheers* with their Yoda Soda!

The battle is on!

And on.

Jason got the mess beat out of him!

My favorite picture! Little Leias.

And then Mama had to have a Jar Jar Beer.

And now I must collapse until tomorrow when we will go to the museum with a friend, drink mint juleps all afternoon until the Kentucky Derby and then eat Mexican to celebrate Cinco de Mayo.

I’ll be on the sofa waiting for that invitation to the Mother of the Year Awards.

Tidbits of Information on this #FineChinaFriday

Tidbits of Information on this #FineChinaFriday

Happy Friday.

Boy, these weeks are just flying by. Seems like every time I turn around, it’s Friday again.

First things first. It’s #FineChinaFriday again. Are you participating? Have you started noticing that you’re not as scared of your china and crystal and silver as you were before? I think you have!

Last week, my friend Leah wrote an awesome post about her experience. You should read it.

New here and don’t know what I’m talking about? Check out the original post.

So pull out your china. Order a pizza and enjoy!

Remember, I want to know about it!

  • If you share it on Facebook, tag Jana’s Thinking Place in it (you should like my page, too).
  • If you share it on Twitter, follow me on Twitter first and then use the hashtag #FineChinaFriday.
  • If you share it on Pinterest, follow me there and you can use the hashtag #FineChinaFriday there, too.
  • Using Instagram? You can follow me there, too. I’m jana0926 there as well! Use that SAME hashtag.

In other news, things have been busy around here. School, work, life. It’s just been busy.

Yesterday I went into the office to shoot a video ad. I SO don’t love things like that but it seemed to go well.

I also got to hang out with our new mascot at the Grayson location of Buck Jones Nursery. His name is Buckley and he’s just as sweet as he can be. I interviewed him and you can read that here.

Also, speaking of work, we have some amazing new stuff in our online store. I would love for you to check it out. I’ll even slip you a code for 15% off. Type in BJNONLINE001 at checkout and there you go!

The Kentucky Derby is next weekend. This makes me SO excited, but also very sad. I miss living in Fort Valley and being able to invite all our friends over — ones we rarely saw — and partying like we were really at the Derby. I think (and I hope this isn’t too forward) they miss it, too.

But it’s time to pull out the mint julep cups and start whipping up a batch of simple syrup so we can celebrate in style next Saturday.

Need a mint julep recipe? I have one for you. I even have a non-alcoholic version that’s really quite good. One year at our party there were like 4 pregnant girls. They devoured the non-alcoholic version in no time!

Check them out here.

We’re going to the Braves game tomorrow night. I haven’t been to a Braves game since the opening game at Turner Field a million years ago. It’s Scout night so we’re supposed to get there early with Henry in uniform and they get to have a parade around the field. I can’t tell you how excited he is for this! Yes, I’ll have my camera!

I’ve got a lot of ideas for posts swirling in my head. They’re a little more serious, but that’s usually how they get this time of year. We’re coming up on the Season of Ick — Mother’s Day, Charlie’s Birthday (May 21), Charlie’s Angel Day (June 14) and Father’s Day. Nine years. I have a lot to say. So next time you go to the store, grab a box of Kleenex if those posts make you cry because there will be more between now and then probably.

That’s about all I know.

What are y’all up to this weekend? Can you believe it’s almost May?

A Few Things + #FineChinaFriday

A Few Things + #FineChinaFriday

I don’t much feel like writing a real pithy post today about anything super special. Instead, you get a mishmash of a bunch of garbage.

First of all, y’all, it’s #FineChinaFriday. I hope you didn’t forget. I hear there’s a super special celebration going on at my friend Leah’s house today. By special I mean OMG SHE HAS A TEENAGER NOW!

If you want to grab a button and write about what you’re doing for #FineChinaFriday, go for it. Don’t forget to tag me in pictures and use the hashtag on Twitter!

Go forth and dine on your finest!

It’s Spring Break. I’m counting down the hours til school starts Monday morning. We’ve had a grand ole time, but dang I’m ready for the boy to go back. He’s bored. I’m anxious. Did I mention he’s bored?

We’ve done lots, don’t get me wrong. We spent the weekend at the lake, hanging out with family and fishing. That was a blast. We even decided to stay an extra night, because WHY THE HECK NOT?

He’s had two playdates. LONG ones, at that. We’ve gotten cupcakes, gone for bike rides, watched movies.

Today we hit up the High Museum for the Picasso to Warhol exhibit. He asked to go, so how could I turn that down. Is it every day that a 7 year old asks to go to an art exhibit? I think not.

Here he is with Andy Warhol’s “Self Portrait” after stopping to look at each piece of work and read every description in the whole exhibit. He knew about a lot of them, too. I was very impressed.

Wednesday, I pulled a tick off Henry’s head. It was as big as a quarter pencil eraser. I was not pleased about this. After stunning it with Gin (because I’m an idiot who doesn’t have rubbing alcohol in her house) and tweezing it out of his head, I promptly freaked the hell out about him dying from Lyme disease. (Thank you, Twitter, for calming me down.)

Apparently the tick was not the same kind that are normally carriers, so he should be all good.

But just in case, I have a tick in my freezer in a plastic baggie if he turns into Lyme central.

I’d show you the picture but you’d probably gag. If you’re interested (consider yourself warned), click here.

Have you checked out my work website lately? What? You haven’t? Well, pfft… you should.

I’m working for the wholesale nursery I worked for out of college, Buck Jones Nursery and I’m running their online store, blog and Twitter feed.

We’ve got some amazing products in the store, like these super cool recycled tire baskets.

Shhhhhh… I can even give you a super-special-secret code (BJNONLINE001) for 15% off in the store right now.

It’s Masters Week. That means Jason has been over to Augusta. This makes the 23rd time, thanks to his roommate from college. It’s given us a chance over the years to attend one of the most amazing events in sports. But more importantly, it means I get egg salad sandwiches. When I’ve been to The Tournament, I’ve had 2 or 3 while I was there, and usually got one to bring home. When Jason goes alone, he always takes a cooler and brings me back 2 or 3 because he loves me.

This year was no exception.

Masters Week also means it’s the beginning of Gin and Tonic season. It’s a shame I used the end of the Gin on that damn tick. We’ll have to go get more. That’s ok, I’m sure the guy at the liquor store is wondering why I haven’t been this week. They miss me when I don’t show up regularly.

I was going to write about how I totally stand with Augusta National and their position on keeping it an all male golf club. I decided I was tired of talking about it since I hashed it out on Facebook.

Basketball finally ended. But baseball started. Why do those seasons seem to last forever? Why can’t football last like 8 months out of the year? That would really make me happy.

I guess I’ve got IndyCar and golf to keep me occupied through the next few months.

So that’s all I’ve got. What’s up with you?
